“Everything I am is because of You; I am where I am because You brought me through…” This sentiment is why J.Poww made the decision to switch gears and use his God-given talents to advance the Kingdom with his first gospel album. The singer, lyricist, songwriter, producer plans to release his latest album, Savior Made, independently in May 2014. Savior Made is not your traditional gospel album. It’s what the Lansing, Mich. native refers to as “urban gospel” with many of the songs having an R&B vibe. “My hope is that this album will minister to the masses,” says J.Poww.

The 14-track album provides a message no matter where someone is in their walk with Christ - whether they need to follow God, their faith is being tested or they just want to be closer to Him. Savior Made provides listeners a platform to praise God with “Hallelujah” – a duet with Sunday’s Best finalist, Chiffon McNeal; and fans can also get a glimpse of J.Poww’s personal side with “This is My Prayer” – a very intimate prayer between him and God. J.Poww has something for his hip-hop fans as well. He is concurrently working on a spinoff hip-hop gospel album, Advance the Kingdom, which will also be released later this year.

J. Poww’s professional music career began 20 years ago as one of the lead singers of the award-winning R&B group U.N.V. (Universal Nubian Voices) of Madonna’s Maverick/Warner Bros label. As the primary writer, J. Poww wrote the group’s biggest hit, “Something’s Goin’ On,” which reached #1 on the Billboard R&B chart and remained there for nine weeks. The group recorded two albums under the label before dissolving. In 1996,

J.Poww cofounded his first independent label, TRE-J Records, which was nationally distributed by Indie Distribution. His first independent release was for a rap duo J & The Phatman who made monumental strides as the first music artists from Michigan to appear on Yo! MTVRaps. Their first single, “Keep It Comin,” was produced by chart-topping producers Soul Shock and Karlyn.

J.Poww’s independent ventures continued and in 2001, he formed Powwer Moves Records, LLC. The label debuted R&B duo, Poww Bros, which was made up of half the U.N.V. quartet - J.Poww and his brother, Shawn Martin. Their first single “Faithful To” went to #5 on the Billboard singles chart. In 2008, J.Poww released Timeless – a best of U.N.V. compilation album; and in 2009, he released his first solo project, J.Poww The Headliner.

J.Poww has kept a musical presence since then by consecutively releasing a solo album every year thereafter. His album collection includes Journey of a Man, Split Personality, and Where Is the Love which are all available for purchase online at www.jpoww.com and on all major online music stores. Just a few months away from being released, Savior Made has already created buzz on social media sites as J.Poww allows fans to sample some of the tracks from the album.

“No album has been more self-rewarding as Savior Made and I am excited to see where God takes this.” – J.Poww
